Shanti Groove NYE at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom

Humongus thank you to everyone who participated. Moonshine Still rocked the house with us for two nights. 2006 featured a 3 hour plus closing set from Shanti Groove, and not one, but two NYE babies, Chris Carland and Jay Bianchi. Chris made NYE baby predictions, a little-known tradition in this part of the world. Vince Herman and son Silas joined in the musical marathon, Vince on guitar and Silas on washboard. Scott sang with us and Trip from Moonshine Still played some keys, and Medicine Man blew the harp.

McCoury Family graces Shanti Groove

After performing a sold out show at the Englert Theater in Iowa City, members of the Del McCoury Band Mike Bub, Ronnie and Robbie McCoury sat in for a rousing encore with Shanti Groove at the Green Room. Some of the crowd attended both shows, and were as thrilled as we were to have them take the stage with us. Ronnie tore up Roanoak that included a banjo pass between Jason and Robbie. John played electric mando and Ronnie played John's acoustic. Ronnie was coaxed into singing a number, Mike Bub took a blistering solo, and so did Chris. On to Chicago, my kind a town...

Uncle Vince springs forward

Thanks to Vince Herman for joining us in Lawrence at the Bottleneck and in Fayettville at George's Majestic for what turned out to be three nights of picking. Great BBQ stop at Gates stateline restaurant. The snow that shut down the Denver airport forced Vince to turn around at the airport and kept us pickin' deep into the Arkansas night. Thanks Josh and Eloise and Jeb for hosting the fishing expedition. Jason and Chris are picking out mountings for the trophy fish that were not pulled in after four hours on the river...

Shanti Groove Rocks the Earth

It was a killer time picking with Pete Wernick and Gregg Schoket. The Rock the Earth crew made us feel better than at home. With tasty food and decorations. Hello from Alaska, where the beer is cold, the slopes are steep, and the Bear Tooth is gonna ROCK. Vince Herman joins us tonight for the pre pick warm up.

Northern lights greeted our landing in Anchorage last night, tonight Vince arrives and we warm up with a big pick fueled by sushi and Moose Tooth ales. Juri attacked the slopes at Girdwood, Flaps hit the scenic overlooks and the rest of us devoured halibut at the Tooth. Can't wait to see the home team back at the Fox on the 12th.
